Privacy & your footage
How MatchReel handles match video and personal information. Last updated 19 July 2026.
Who MatchReel is for
MatchReel accounts are for adults — parents, guardians, coaches and club officials. You must be 18 or over to hold an account. Children do not have accounts: a child appears as a player on a team roster, managed by their coach and linked to their guardian’s account.
Footage of children
Amateur match video routinely shows minors. Filming and sharing a child’s image is subject to privacy law (in Australia, the Privacy Act 1988). Before you upload or share youth footage you must have guardian consent.
- Videos are private by default.
- Youth teams are marked as such by default; public and link sharing is blocked for a youth team until consent is recorded.
- Auto-camera cuts made for a youth team have every face blurred. This is enforced on our servers, not in the app, and it is not something a subscription can switch off.
- Anyone appearing in a video — or their guardian — can request removal from the video page, and we act on it.
What we collect
Account and contact
- Your email address (sign-in is by one-time email code — there are no passwords).
- Your name and phone number, collected when you first sign in.
- Your role on the platform (parent, coach or administrator).
Team and roster
- Team names, and the email addresses of people invited to a team or a video.
- For each player on a roster: first and last name, jersey number and playing position — these are usually children’s details.
- The guardian relationship linking an adult account to a child on a roster.
- A per-player face-consent flag recorded by the coach.
Match content
- Match videos you upload, a poster image, and match details (teams, opponent, date, notes).
- When you stream a match from the app, the live video and audiocaptured by your device’s camera and microphone. Streams are recorded and kept as the match replay.
- Clips and automatic highlights generated from your footage.
- Fixturesretrieved from your club’s public fixture listing, including venue names and venue coordinates.
- Anonymous match analytics — heatmaps and an activity timeline derived from the video. These record positions on the pitch only: no names, no faces, no jersey numbers, and no way to identify an individual.
- Location and EXIF metadata in uploaded files is stripped during processing.
Activity
- Comments, team chat messages, reactions, and the players you follow.
- Your playback position in a video, so you can resume where you left off.
- A view logwhen footage is watched — the time, the viewer’s account (or “public link”), their browser type, and a salted hash of their IP address (never the raw address). This is an access trail for youth footage.
Billing
- Subscriptions are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your card details — we keep only a Stripe customer reference and your plan.
What we do not do
- We do not sell your personal information.
- We do not show advertising, and there are no advertising SDKs in the app.
- We do not use footage of children to train facial-recognition models.
- We do not track you across other apps or websites.
Who can see a video
Private (only you), Team (members of that team), Invite (specific email addresses), or a Public link. Public links are unlisted, are not search-indexed, and can be revoked at any time. Public and link sharing is blocked for youth teams without recorded consent.
Who processes the data
- Amazon Web Services — hosting, database, video storage and delivery. Your data is stored in the Sydney, Australiaregion. Video is delivered through Amazon CloudFront’s global network.
- Resend (United States) — sends sign-in codes and invitations. This involves transferring your email address overseas.
- Stripe (United States) — payment processing for subscriptions.
How long we keep it
- Match footage: 24 months, then deleted automatically along with its clips and highlights. You can delete any video sooner, at any time.
- View logs: 90 days.
- Account information: kept while your account is open, and deleted when you delete it.
- Child-safety reports and the records of what we did about them are kept longer — up to 7 years — because we may need them to cooperate with police, a club, or a regulator. These are written records, not video.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account and its data from the app, or from matchreel.com.au/delete-account. Deletion removes your account, your videos and their stored files, your messages and comments, your view history and your saved playback positions.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of your personal information, ask us to correct it, or ask us to erase it. Anyone appearing in a video, or their guardian, can request its removal. If you are not satisfied with how we handle a privacy matter you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au).
